VISIT MARSALA AND ITS SURROUNDINGS

Marsala has that charm that only a place with a millenary history like yours can have. The city was founded by the Phoenicians, prospered thanks to the Romans, fell into decline during the reign of Justinian and recovered thanks to the Arabs who also gave it the name that has come down to us. Its denomination, in fact, derives from Mars-Alì (Porto grande) for some or from Mars-Allah (port of Allah) for others. After the Arabs it was the turn of the Angevins and, finally, of the Aragonese. On 11 May 1860, with the landing of the Thousand and Garibaldi, Marsala was the protagonist of the beginning of the unification of Italy. Thanks to the centuries-old wine production and to a culinary tradition which is a synthesis of numerous cultures, Marsala also offers numerous ideas for food and wine itineraries: from raw marinated fish, to couscous, to typical ricotta desserts. All accompanied by strictly Marsala table wines and dessert wines. Finally, Marsala enjoys an ideal position for visiting western Sicily, very rich in history (the archaeological parks of Segesta and Selinunte, Erice, the historic centers of its main towns and villages) and natural treasures (the beaches of Marsala, Trapani and San Vito lo Capo, the Egadi and their wonderful and uncontaminated sea, the Stagnone of Marsala with its beautiful salt pans). From Marsala, everything can be reached in a few tens of minutes.
